Various railway stations in Siliguri area are:

  • Siliguri Town – The oldest of the railway stations in the area is in the town itself, which started operating on 23rd August in 1880 from the times of the British Raj and was the primary terminus for those trains which came in from Kolkata. It also served as the beginning point of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which was world famous way to travel into Darjeeling. This station was the point where great world famous figures passed through during their journeys to Darjeeling and other places beyond.
  • Siliguri junction – Started in 1949, the Siliguri Junction became the place from where almost all the trains departed for the North Eastern states, till the time when broad gauge line was put up till New Bongaigaon. This junction is the one of its kind with presence of tracks belonging to three rail gauges that have been used in the country.
  • New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri – The New Jalpaiguri station was established in 1964 as part of the Greenfield project about 2.5 kms towards the south from the Hasmi Chowk. The station is important one in the region of New Jalpaiguri, but was initially named as New Siliguri, and also known as NJP. It is through this station that Siliguri has established connectivity to almost every place of the country through rail network. Due to the rapid expansion of the city of Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri has been included as a ward in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Toy Train of the Darjeeling Himalayan railway is the primary attraction of the NJP. This station has also acquired the status of the largest  in the whole of the North East region and has the disctinction of being the cleanest in the whole country, officially declared so in 2011, with a parking area which is quite wide.
  • Badgogra, Siliguri – An important terminal of railway network in the city of Siliguri, the Bagdogra station is located in the west part of the city.

Now that the broad gauge track from siliguri junction has been extended, people are able to avail transportation directly to the city centre without changing trains at New Jalpaiguri. This broad gauge line goes on to Old Dooars track of meter gauge till the station of Alipurduar and after that.

  • Naxalbari, Siliguri – The station of Naxalbari is located in the greater Siliguri city, towards the western region. The importance of the station strategically is its facilitation of the Naxalbari and Panitanki population in travelling to other areas of the country and also helps people from areas like Kakarvita, Bittamore, Dhulabari, etc in Nepal to travel to india. This station will be coming up with the facilities of reservation counters equipped with computerized system of tickeing. The new track of broad gauge passing from the Junction of Siliguri and going into Aluabari Road (Islampur, Uttar Dinajpur) through the city of Bagdogra, Thakurganj in Bihar and Naxalbari has become a reason for the growth of trade and travel in North western region of the country.
